Women's Volleyball Opens Season at Central/Grinnell Tournament

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman women's volleyball team will open their 2024 season traveling to compete in the Central/Grinnell Tournament. The team will start the weekend facing Buena Vista and Westminster (MO) on Friday, August 30 at 4 PM and 6 PM CT. They will finish the tournament facing Simpson and Saint Mary's (MN) on Saturday, August 31 at 10 AM and 12 PM CT.

ROSE-HULMAN NOTES:
* The Fightin' Engineers have been selected to finish fifth in this year's Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference preseason poll receiving 46 points in the voting. 
* Rose-Hulman finished in sixth place in the conference last season with a 15-14 record overall and a 4-5 conference record. 
* The squad returns two all-conference players from last year including Lily Ebright and Jillian Gregg.
* Ebright has been named the HCAC Defensive Player of the Year in the last two seasons. 
* The team will rely on a couple of new faces with eight freshmen and one transfer joining the team this season.
* After competing in the Central/Grinnell Tournament, Rose-Hulman will travel to take on Webster on Wednesday, September 4 at 7 PM CT. 

BUENA VISTA NOTES:
* Buena Vista was selected to finish ninth in the  American Rivers Conference preseason poll.
* The team finished last season with a record of 6-18 overall and 0-8 in the conference. 
* The team welcomes back Skylar Cole who was all-conference selection last season, leading the team in kills, kills per set, and points.
* After facing Rose-Hulman, the Beavers will face Saint Mary's (MN) in the Grinnell/Central Invitational on Saturday, August 31 at 10 AM CT.

WESTMINSTER (MO) NOTES:
* Westminster (MO) finished last season with a record of 19-14 overall and 13-5 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
* The Blue Jays finished third in the conference falling in the semifinal round to Fontbonne.
* The team returns Kylie Hasselbacher who was first-team all-conference last season and one of the team's top hitters ranking second in kills, kills per set, and points.
* After facing the Fightin' Engineers, Westminster (MO) will continue the Grinnell/Central Invitational taking on Buena Vista on Friday, August 30 at 8:30 PM CT. 

SIMPSON NOTES:
* Simpson has been selected to finish fourth in the American Rivers Conference preseason poll which is their highest-predicted finish since 2010. 
* The Storm finished last season with a record of 10-21 overall and 4-4 in the conference, making it to the semifinal round of the conference tournament. 
* Emily Williams is the team's top returner after earning first-team all-conference last year and leading the team in kills and kills per set.
* After facing Rose-Hulman, the Storm will continue the Grinnell/Central Invitational facing St. Scholastica on Saturday, August 31 at 12 PM CT.

SAINT MARY'S (MN) NOTES:
* Saint Mary's (MN) finished last season with a record of 11-19 overall and 3-8 in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
* The team finished 10th in the MIAC last season missing the conference tournament. 
* The Cardinals return their young star Kali Olson for her second year with the team after being one of their top hitters in 2023.
* After facing Rose-Hulman, the Cardinals will host the Sugar Loaf Classic facing Milwaukee School of Engineering on Friday, September 6 at 7 PM CT.
