TERRE HAUTE, Ind.-- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology men's soccer team will begin the 2024 season with their home opener against Wilmington on Sunday, September 1st at 2 PM.
ROSE-HULMAN NOTES:
* The Fightin' Engineer's first scheduled contest against Greenville University on Friday night was canceled due to severe weather in the area.
* Rose-Hulman has been selected to win the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference in the league's preseason poll receiving 79 points and 7 first-place votes.
* The Fightin' Engineers finished last season with a record of 12-5-3 overall and 6-2-1 in the HCAC to claim the #3 seed in the postseason tournament.
* The team went on to win the HCAC Tournament taking out the top two teams in the league to advance to their second consecutive NCAA Tournament.
* Rose-Hulman suffered a close loss in the first round of the NCAA Tournament to Ohio Wesleyan with a final score of 2-0.
* The squad returns four all-conference players from last year's team including
Peter Borger,
John Biederstedt,
Elijah Hardersen, and
Chase Kedzior.
* Along with the returning all-conference players,
Julius Salinas,
Jacob Pohl, and
Tyler Eldridge have been named players to watch by the HCAC.
* After hosting Wilmington, the team will travel to face Wabash on Wednesday, September 4 at 5 PM.
WILMINGTON NOTES:
* Wilmington stands at 1-0 heading into their match up with the Fightin' Engineers on Sunday.
* The team picked up a win in their home opener against Mount St. Joseph University with a final score of 6-3.
* Kaden Young was a key performer in the Quakers win over the Lions with two goals in the contest.
* Randy Harris also made an impact with one goal and one assist in the win.
* The team has been picked to finish 8th in the OAC preseason poll this season.
* After facing Rose-Hulman, Wilmington will return home to face Anderson University on Tuesday, September 3 at 7 PM.
SERIES HISTORY:
* Rose-Hulman trails in the all-time series between both teams with a record of 0-2-1 against the Quakers.
* The last time both teams played was during the 2010 season with the match ending in a scoreless draw.
* Wilmington defeated the Fightin' Engineers during the 1994 season 6-2, and the 1993 season 4-2.
