Football Hosts Hope for Tackle Childhood Cancer Game Saturday

TERRE HAUTE, Ind.-- The Rose-Hulman Fightin' Engineers football team will host Hope College on Saturday, September 21 at 1:30 PM for their Tackle Childhood Cancer Game. 

TACKLE CHILDHOOD CANCER NOTES:
* Rose-Hulman has teamed up with the Patrick S. Barrett Foundation to help bring awareness to September's National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.
* T-shirts will be for sale and donations are encouraged with all of the proceeds being donated to the PS We Love You Fund at Riley Hospital for Children.

ROSE-HULMAN NOTES:
* The Fightin' Engineers stand at 0-2 after a tough loss to Trine in their home opener last Saturday with a final score of 39-33.
* Andrew Toler was named the HCAC Special Teams Athlete of the Week and earned D3football.com Team of the Week for his performance against Trine. 
* Toler totaled five punts for an average of 51.6 yards per kick with two punts pinning the Thunder inside the 20-yard line. 
* Jay Smith was named the HCAC Offensive Athlete of the Week after totaling 134 yards rushing with a career-high three rushing touchdowns. 
* Smith leads the team and the conference with 237 yards rushing averaging 5.6 yards per carry and 118.5 yards per game. 
* Rick Easterwood leads the team and ranks second in the conference with 460 passing yards averaging 230 yards passing per game. 
* Easterwood leads the conference with four touchdown passes this season. 
* Rose-Hulman has been selected to finish third in the HCAC preseason poll receiving 25 points.
* The team finished last season with a record of 7-3 overall and 6-1 in the HCAC.
* The Fightin' Engineers finished second in the HCAC after falling to Mount St. Joseph in the final game of the season.
* The squad returns eight All-Conference student-athletes from last year's team including Wyatt BellCameron DorseyAdam FieldDaniel HueryBen KleinDylan PageKyle Rehberg, and Andrew Toler.
* All of the returning All-Conference players with additions of Rick Easterwood, Augustus Shryock, and Jay Smith have been named as Players to Watch by the HCAC this season.
* Senior Punter Andrew Toler has been named a 1st Team Preseason All-American by D3football.com.
* Toler earned a pair of All-American honors last season ranking third in all of Division III with an average of 44.4 yards per punt last season. 
* He also enters his final season ranked second in school history in career yards per punt at 39.71. 
Jeff Sokol is serving in his 14th year at Rose-Hulman with a career record of 84-43. Sokol has led Rose-Hulman to three HCAC titles and two NCAA Playoff appearances in 2016 and 2021.
* After hosting Hope, the Fightin' Engineers begin HCAC play hosting Franklin College for Homecoming on Saturday, October 5 at 2 PM. 

HOPE NOTES:
* The Flying Dutchmen stand at 2-0 overall this season with wins over Loras College 49-0 and Franklin College 48-6.
* The team has relied heavily on their run game ranking fourth in the nation with 385 yards rushing per game and second with 12 rushing touchdowns.
* Running Back Chance Strickland leads the nation with seven rushing touchdowns this season. 
* Strickland has totaled 197 rushing yards averaging 8.6 yards per carry. 
* Hope is led by Ben Wellman under center completing 73.91% of his passes with 217 yards and one passing touchdown. 
* The Flying Dutchmen are currently receiving votes in the nation's top 25 poll by D3football.com
* Hope has been selected to finish second in the MIAA preseason poll with 13 points and one first-place vote. 
* The team finished last season with a record of 8-2 overall and 5-1 in the MIAA. 
* After facing Rose-Hulman, Hope will travel to face Alma on Saturday, September 28 at 2 PM. 

SERIES HISTORY:
* Hope leads the all-time series between both teams picking up a win during the 2021 season with a final score of 27-20.
* Saturday's contest will be the second time both programs have faced off. 
* Rose-Hulman hosts Hope for the first time with the 2021 match-up taking place in Holland, Michigan.

Jacob Fields - One of seven players in Rose-Hulman history to return a fumble for a touchdown, and 8th in fumble return yards (19)
