TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman football team suffered a loss to Hope College on Saturday afternoon with a final score of 49-7. This drops the Fightin' Engineers to 0-3 so far this season.Â
Rick Easterwood led the team offensively finishing the game going 19-29 with 164 passing yards and one touchdown.
Jay Smith also made an impact rushing for 53 yards and catching three passes for 20 yards including Rose-Hulman's only touchdown of the day on a 17-yard reception.Â
Wyatt Bell and
Jacob Fields were the difference makers on defense both leading the team with nine tackles on the afternoon.Â
Hope got on the board first in their first drive of the contest. The Flying Dutchmen put together a 9-play 65-yard drive capped off by a one-yard rushing touchdown from Tyler Amos. Rose-Hulman answered with an impressive drive of their own going 75 yards in 13 plays scoring on a 16-yard pass from Easterwood to Smith.Â
The Flying Dutchmen took back the momentum almost immediately returning the ensuing kickoff for an 87-yard touchdown. Hope was able to control the game after that putting up 35 points in the first half on the Fightin' Engineers. Hope held off any comeback attempt by the Engineers to claim the win and remain undefeated on the year.
Rose-Hulman will look to bounce back as they begin HCAC play against the Franklin Grizzlies for Homecoming on Saturday, October 5 at 2 PM.Â
