ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's soccer team came up short in a 1-0 loss to Webster on Wednesday evening. The Fightin' Engineers fall to 0-2 on the season for the just the second time in the last seven years.
Rose-Hulman and Webster battled to a scoreless first half with neither team recording a shot on goal.
The Gorloks opened the second half with a bang as they slotted home their first and only shot on goal of the game for a 1-0 lead, just 39 seconds in the half.
Rose-Hulman had a plethora of chances to begin the second half with four shots on goal in the first 10 minutes, but the Gorlok's keeper was able to keep Rose-Hulman off the board.
Lauren Marquardt and
Kyra Hicks each had great chances in the final three minutes, but once again, the Webster keeper kept the ball out of the back of the net and held on for the 1-0 win.
Hicks led the team with three shots and one on goal, and Marquardt,
Camille Clark,
Sydnee Schuler,
Alex Adams, and
Natalie Morrow all recorded shots on goal in the loss.
It was a tough match on the defensive side of the ball for Rose-Hulman as they were called for 17 fouls compared to just five the Gorloks.
The Fightin' Engineers will return to action on Saturday, September 7 as they travel to Chicago to take on the Illinois Tech Scarlet Hawks.
