TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology men's basketball team came up just short in a battle of two 7-1 HCAC teams with a 68-61 loss to the Franklin Grizzlies.
Franklin came out of the gates on fire with a quick 11-2 run, but the Fightin' Engineers quickly turned the tide with a 15-2 run of their own with
Kobe Stoudemire scoring 10 of those 15 himself.
Rose-Hulman would hold the lead for the remainder of the half, but the Grizzlies cut the lead to 33-31 with a 7-2 run in the final 4:25 of the half.
In the second half, the Grizzlies continued their momentum from the end of the first half and capped the run at 16-6 as Franklin took a 43-37 lead with 16 minutes remaining.
The game of runs continued for Rose-Hulman as a 16-4 run propelled the Fightin' Engineers from down six to up six on a big
Cole Pride three ball with 9:45 to go.
The Grizzlies retook the lead once again with under five minutes to play with a 12-0 run after holding the Fightin' Engineers scoreless for over five minutes to stretch their lead to 62-55.
Rose-Hulman would continue to fight down the stretch, but they were unable to complete the final comeback and fell for a 68-61 loss.
Kobe Stoudemire led the team with 19 points, and
Joey Schmitz added 14 points on four made triples.
Miles McGowen was held to just four points, but he led Rose-Hulman with 11 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals.
With the loss, the Fightin' Engineers falls to 10-6 on the season and 7-2 in the HCAC with their second consecutive loss. The team returns to their home floor on Wednesday, January 22 as they host the Manchester Spartans at 7:30 PM.
