TERRE HAUTE, Ind.-- The Rose-Hulman men's tennis team opens their 2025 spring season at 3 PM on Saturday, February 1, as they host the Illinois Tech Scarlet Hawks in a rematch of the opening round of the 2024 NCAA Tournament. The match will take place at the Terre Haute Tennis and Pickleball Center indoor courts.
ROSE-HULMANÂ MEN'S TENNIS NOTES:
* The Fightin' Engineers capped off their fall season with a record of 2-1 overall and 2-0 in the HCAC.
* Rose-Hulman defeated conference opponents Manchester (7-0) and Earlham (6-1), but they dropped their lone non-conference match with a 4-3 loss to Greenville.

Owen Reynolds highlighted the team's individual performances early this season after he advanced to the championship round of the consolation bracket at the ITA Regional Tournament in St. Louis, Missouri. Reynolds fell short in the championship match with a 7-5, 6-4 loss to Wabash.
* Reynolds leads the team with 6 singles wins in the 2024-25 season with four of those coming at the ITA Regional Tournament.

Grant Paradowski is one win shy of breaking into the top-10 for career singles wins at Rose-Hulman. He has a 46-29 overall record as a Fightin' Engineer.

Joao Henrique Nossar has been a bright spot for Rose-Hulman this season with a 4-1 singles record, leading the team in singles wins. The freshman from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil dropped his first career match, but he is on a four-match winning streak since that point.

Chris Lian leads the Fightin' Engineers in doubles wins with four on the season.
* Rose-Hulman was picked as the favorite to repeat as HCAC Champions in the preseason coaches poll, receiving 48 points and six of the seven first-place votes.
* The Fightin' Engineers ended last season winning their eighth conference regular season and tournament title in program history. They advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the eighth time where they fell 5-3 to Illinois Tech in the opening round.
* Rose-Hulman brought in five new players to their roster this season from all over the world. The freshman class has players from Virginia (2), Indiana, Germany, and Brazil.
* After hosting Illinois Tech, Rose-Hulman will cap off the winter part of their schedule by hosting Olivet Nazarene at 4 PM on Saturday, February 15.
ILLINOIS TECH NOTES:
* Illinois Tech enters the weekend with a record of 1-2 overall this season.
* The team opened their spring season last weekend with a 4-3 victory over Lake Forest and a 7-0 defeat to the #1 team in the nation, the University of Chicago.
* The Scarlet Hawks fell short to #1 University of Chicago 7-0 and defeated Lake Forest College with a final score of 4-3.Â
* Pol Dueso Guell leads Illinois Tech in singles wins this season with wins over Lake Forest and Purdue-Northwest.
* Dueso Guell and Eduardo Lopez also teamed up for a 6-4 win over Illinois Tech, the lone doubles win in nine matches for the Scarlet Hawks.
* After facing Rose-Hulman, the team will return home to host Roosevelt University at 8 PM on Friday, February 7 as the XS Tennis Center in Chicago.
SERIES HISTORY:
* The all-time series between the Fightin' Engineers and the Scarlet Hawks stands at a 2-2 tie after Illinois Tech won both meetings last season.Â
* Illinois Tech defeated Rose-Hulman 6-3 during the regular season, and they came out victorius once more in the NCAA Tournament with a 5-3 win at Case Western.
* Rose-Hulman beat Illinois Tech 5-1 back in the 2019 NCAA Tournament. Their lone regular season victory came in a 9-0 decision in Terre Haute in 2018.
