Fightin' Engineers Soar to Victory over the #1-Seed

ANDERSON, Ind. – Rose-Hulman had a tough task ahead of them as they faced the 5-0-1 Anderson Ravens on the road. The Fightin' Engineers would prevail in the match, handing the #1-seed in the HCAC their first conference loss of the season in a 2-0 victory.

The Ravens would open the game with a pair of shots in the 6th and 7th minutes, which would both sail wide of Rose-Hulman's goal.

Katie Choi fired the first shot on goal of the match in the 13th, where her shot down the middle was hauled in by keeper Adrienne Weyers. Riley Heasley would add a shot on goal of her own in the 20th minute, which would also be deflected away to keep the game tied at zero.

Rose-Hulman would continue to keep possession on the offensive end, with Choi and Sydnee Schuler firing a pair of shots off target in the 24th.

One minute later, Lauren Marquardt made a pass to Iliana Hernandez, who launched her shot into the back of the net to give the Fightin' Engineers the 1-0 lead. Hernandez's goal would tie Marquardt for a team-high five goals, while Marquardt's assist gives her a team-leading 13 points.

Lena Darini nearly extended the lead to two right before halftime, but her 44th-minute shot towards the right side of the goal was saved.

RHIT would conclude the half with a 1-0 lead, where they outshot Anderson 10-2 with four shots on goal. Rose-Hulman's defense also had a great first 45 minutes of action, as they did not allow a single shot on goal.

Rose-Hulman set the tone early in the second half, as Sydnee Schuler scored a 55th-minute goal on Emma Johns' first assist of the season.

The Ravens responded with a shot two minutes later, which went wide right of the goal. Rose-Hulman would take the following possession downfield, where Johns would attempt a shot towards the left side of the goal, which was saved by Weyers.

Brooke Spurlock would record her first save of the match in the 63rd minute, and she added another save one minute later on a shot down the left side.

Hernandez recorded her second shot on goal in the 75th minute, which was kicked away on a team save by Anderson's defense. Rose-Hulman would gain possession off the save, and both Marquardt and Hernandez added 76th-minute shots on goal, which were hit away by Weyers.

Anderson would attempt a 79th-minute shot on target, which was saved by Spurlock to give her three saves on the day.

The Fightin' Engineers secured the 2-0 victory, where Spurlock recorded her ninth shutout of the season. She is currently two clean sheets away from tying the single-season record at Rose-Hulman.

RHIT outshot the Ravens 21-8 overall, while attempting nine shots on goal to Anderson's three.

With the win, the Fightin' Engineers are now tied with Anderson for the #2 seed with a 5-1-1 conference record. They trail only Mt. St. Joseph at 5-0-1, who will face Berea later today.

Rose-Hulman will return to Terre Haute as they host Bluffton in their Senior Day Game on Saturday, October 25, at 1 PM. Prior to the match, Rose-Hulman will honor their eight seniors in Brooke Spurlock, Lauren Marquardt, Camille Clark, Alexis Willour, Alex Adams, Katie Choi, Carolina Snyder-Perez, and Elizabeth Johnson.
