TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Fightin' Engineers women's soccer team picked up a win over the Manchester Spartans in the final game of the regular season with a final score of 4-0. The win advances the team to 9-6-2 overall and 7-1-1 in the HCAC, and clinches the #2 seed in the HCAC Tournament.
Rose-Hulman took control from the start, reaching the net just 39 seconds into the match on a goal by
Sydnee Schuler to take the 1-0 lead. This is the quickest goal for the Fightin' Engineers this season.
Makayla Doherty added another score in the 31st minute on an assist by
Emma Johns and
Iliana Hernandez to build the Fightin' Engineers' lead to 2-0.
Doherty found the back of the net for her second goal of the day after an assist by
Gaby Hansen in the 37th minute to give Rose-Hulman the 3-0 lead heading into halftime.
Rose continued to control the pace in the second half.
Camille Clark added a goal in the 61st minute to build the lead to 4-0, recording her second goal in consecutive games.
The Fightin' Engineers finished the match out-shooting the Spartans 32-0 in a dominant performance.
Brooke Spurlock and
Elizabeth Johnson earned the combined shutout in goal for the Fightin' Engineers. This is the 10th shutout of the season for Rose-Hulman.
Rose-Hulman advances to the HCAC Tournament, earning a first-round bye as the #2 seed. The team will host the winner of #3 Transylvania and #6 Earlham in the HCAC Semifinal on Tuesday, November 4, at 7 PM.
