TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology men's basketball team will travel to compete in the Wheaton Tournament this weekend. The team will face #7 UW-La Crosse on Friday, November 21, at 6 PM ET. Based on the results, the team will face Wheaton or St. Scholastica on Saturday, November 22.
ROSE-HULMAN NOTES:
* Rose-Hulman stands at 1-1 overall this season after falling to Wabash in their season opener and defeating Illinois Tech.
*
Joey Schmitz earns the HCAC Athlete of the Week award for his performance across both games.
* Schmitz scored a game-high 20 points against Wabash, then followed that with a career-high 32 points against IIT that included the game-winning free throws in the final minute.
* Schmitz currently leads the team with 26.0 points per game, shooting 63.3% from the floor and 69.2% from beyond the arc.

Christian Torres is another standout, averaging 10.0 points per game and a team-high 8.0 rebounds per game.
* Rose-Hulman has been selected to finish second in the HCAC Preseason Poll, earning 72 points and three first-place votes.
* The team returns Second Team All-HCAC and HCAC Newcomer of the Year honoree
Joey Schmitz for his sophomore season.
* Schmitz led the team last year with 13.8 points per game and 48 steals.
* Schmitz also broke a 34-year-old Rose-Hulman single-season record for three-pointers made with 81.

* The team is led by Head Coach
Nick Sales in his fourth season with the Fightin' Engineers.
* The team finished last season with a 17-10 overall record and a 13-5 record in the HCAC.
* The team won their opening round game against Mount St. Joseph in the HCAC Tournament with a final score of 69-52.
* The Fightin' Engineers' season came to an end in the HCAC Semifinal against Franklin in a narrow loss, 66-63.
* After competing in the Wheaton Tournament, Rose-Hulman will begin conference play, hosting Manchester on Wednesday, December 3, at 7:30 PM.
#7 UW-LA CROSSE NOTES:
* UW-La Crosse currently stands undefeated at 3-0 so far this season.
* The team currently ranks #7 in the D3hoops.com top 25 poll after two ranked wins over #17 Hampden-Sydney and #14 Virginia Wesleyan.
* The team comes off a win over North Park with a final score of 89-67.
* Sam Grieger is the team's leading scorer with 27.3 points per game, shooting 51.9% from the field and 30.8% from beyond the arc.
* JJ Paider and Dustin Derousseau also averaged double figures in scoring with 17.0 and 11.3 points per game.
* Paider is also the team's leading rebounder with 8.0 rebounds per game and the steals leader with eight.
* The team is led by Head Coach JT Gritzmacher in his third season with UW-La Crosse.
* After competing in the Wheaton Tournament, the team will host Saint John's (Minn.) on Wednesday, November 26, at 3 PM.
UW-LA CROSSE SERIES HISTORY:
* This will be the first time that Rose-Hulman will face UW-La Crosse in program history.

* The Thunder are 2-1 overall this season.
* The team will face Benedictine on Tuesday, November 18, before hosting the Lee Pfund Classic.
* The team has picked up wins over Concordia Wisconsin and Lake Forest this season.
* Soren Richardson is the team's top scorer with 18.3 points per game.
* The team has four other athletes averaging double-figures, including Carson Grier (16.3), Kyan VanderWoude (16.0), Devin Martin (14.0), and Kyle Neibch (12.7).
