HANOVER, Ind. – The Fightin' Engineers have concluded the 2025 season in the HCAC Semifinals, where they dropped to the Hanover Panthers in a hard-fought 2-1 match.
Rose-Hulman got off to a hot start, as they scored their fastest opening goal of the season, 46 seconds into the match.
Aidan Kriek took a throw-in for RHIT, where his pass towards the goal was headed in by
Nick Phillips for his third goal of the season.
The Panthers would also convert on their first shot of the game in the 28
th minute, where Patricio Campos scored his 15
th goal of the season, tying the game at 1-1.
Hanover added another shot that just sailed over the goal in the 40
th, where both teams concluded the half, all tied up.
Burns opened the second half by hauling in a save on Campos' shot in the 55
th minute.
The Panthers were awarded a 65
th-minute penalty kick on a handball inside the box from Rose-Hulman's defense. Campos stepped up to take the P.K., and while Burns dove the right way, the shot just sailed past him to put Hanover ahead 2-1.
Hanover had a great opportunity to extend their lead in the 73
rd, as Miles McMillen found himself in a 1-on-1 break with Burns. He fired a shot down the middle, which Burns hauled in on a great save.
Oliver Fila and
Jacob Pohl each recorded shots on goal in the 79
th and 82
nd minutes, which were saved by Rodrigo Olvera Gonzalez.
The Panthers would add an 83rd-minute strike on a header, which was caught by Burns. He would add his final save minutes before the whistle, finishing the game with a total of four saves.
RHIT had one last chance to tie the game, where they were awarded an 87
th-minute corner kick. The pass connected with
Cameron Hannah, and his shot beat Hanover's keeper, but ricocheted off the top post.
Hanover would wrap up the match with a 2-1 win, where they attempted nine shots to four from Rose-Hulman.
The Fightin' Engineers have finished the season with a 10-5-4 overall record, where they went 4-2-3 in HCAC action. The team concluded the regular season with back-to-back wins to clinch the #3-seed, and they would go on to take down Anderson by a score of 1-0 in the HCAC Quarterfinals.
