RICHMOND, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman women's volleyball team traveled to take on Earlham College on Wednesday night. The team fell short in a competitive five-set match with the Quakers, with set scores of 20-25, 25-22, 25-23, 18-25, and 12-15. This drops the team to 15-11 overall and 3-5 in the HCAC.
The Fightin' Engineers had four players reach double figures in kills on the night.
Greta Carlson led the team with 17 kills, followed by
Emma Blanton with 15,
Keira Ohse with 14, and
Amaya Harrell with 13.
Julia Irmen recorded her third match this season, surpassing 50 assists. She finished the match against the Quakers with a team-high 51 assists.
Lily Ebright was the standout on defense with a team-high 35 digs. Blanton was another impact-maker defensively with 29 digs in the contest.
After falling in the first set, Rose-Hulman battled hard to even the score. After trailing 17-15 in the second set, Rose-Hulman put together a 5-0 run to jump ahead 20-17. The team finished strong with a kill by Blanton to win the set 25-22 and even the score at 1-1 in the match.
The Fightin' Engineers carried that momentum into the third set. After trailing 20-16, Rose-Hulman strung together a 6-1 run to take the lead 22-21. The team picked up the third-set win, scoring the final three points on kills by Irmen and Carlson to take the 2-1 advantage in the match.
Earlham bounced back to win the fourth set and force the fifth set tiebreaker. Rose-Hulman battled hard, but fell just short, losing to the Quakers in the final set 15-12.
Rose-Hulman will return home to host Bluffton on Saturday, November 8, at 1 PM for Senior Day in their regular season finale.
