TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman men's basketball team picked up a conference win over Anderson on the road Saturday with a final score of 70-69. The win advances the team to 5-3 overall this season and keeps them undefeated at 3-0 in HCAC play.
Cole Pride led the team in scoring with 27 points on the day.
Christian Torres also made an impact, recording a double-double with 17 points and a team-high 16 rebounds.Â
The Fightin' Engineers jumped to an 11-point lead in the first seven minutes of the game after a made three-pointer by
Daniel Savovic made the score 19-8.Â
The team stretched their lead to 17 points on a made free throw by Pride with 9:31 remaining before halftime to make the score 30-13.
Rose-Hulman fought to maintain their lead, standing ahead 38-27 heading into the locker room for halftime.Â
The Ravens erased the deficit in the first five minutes of the second half to tie the score at 40-40. Both teams traded the lead in the final 15 minutes as the game came down to the wire.Â
The score was tied at 62-62Â with 3:58 remaining. A jumper by Torres and a layup by Pride put the team ahead 66-62 with 2:20 on the clock.Â
After a made three-pointer by the Ravens,
Nate Smith was able to connect with Torres on an alley-oop dunk that grew the Rose-Hulman lead to 68-65.Â
Another Raven's layup made it a one-point game with 39 seconds remaining. On the next Rose-Hulman possession, Savovic drove into the lane and connected on a contested layup that put the Fightin' Engineers ahead 70-67.Â
Anderson was able to cut the lead to one on a made layup with eight seconds left, but Rose-Hulman stood strong defensively to close out the win in the final seconds.Â
The Fightin' Engineers finished the game out-rebounding the Ravens 41-34 and ended the game shooting 50% from the floor.Â
Rose-Hulman will return home to host Earlham College for the John Mutchner Cup on Wednesday, December 17, at 7:30 PM.Â
