RICHMOND, Ind. – Rose-Hulman picked up their third victory in the past four games, as the Fightin' Engineers took down the Earlham Quakers by a score of 76-56.
RHIT jumped out to an early lead as
Sophia Reese was able to knock down a mid-range jumper, before scoring on an offensive rebound tip-in.
Kaia Peterson would then add consecutive layups, including a tough and-one, which put Rose-Hulman up 13-4.
The Quakers were able to battle back as they tied the game at 14 apiece, following a pair of baskets by Sarah Riley. The lead did not last long, however, as
Emma Schipp knocked down a three-pointer on the following possession.
Schipp would continue to thrive as she scored on an and-one layup, before an offensive rebound tip-in by Schipp put Rose-Hulman up 22-16.
Following a three-pointer by the Quakers,
María Godoy Rodriguez scored on a mid-range jump shot, and
Katelyn Fennell attacked the paint to score on a layup. Schipp and
CK Gallegos Rodriguez would also convert three-pointers, which helped extend Rose's lead to 37-25 at the half.
Fennell opened the second half by scoring on a three-point bucket to extend the lead to 15.
María Godoy Rodriguez continued to show why she ranks third in the HCAC with 2.8 steals per game, as she recorded multiple steals within the four-minute mark which both resulted in fastbreak layups.
The Fightin' Engineers were then able to extend their lead to 58-36 as
Julia Meyer, Peterson, and
Columba Rodriguez scored layups on three-straight possessions.
Godoy Rodriguez added another steal early in the fourth quarter, which led to a fastbreak layup by Reese to make it a 63-38 game. Shortly afterwards, Meyer would score seven-straight points for the Fightin' Engineers, highlighted by an and-one bucket in the paint.
Anaya Hawkins would cap off Rose-Hulman's day with a jump shot in the paint as the Fightin' Engineers secured their second biggest win of the season, by a score of 76-56.
Emma Schipp posted a double-double as she dropped 17 points while hauling in 11 rebounds. She shot 6-12 from the floor, 2-3 from three, and 3-3 at the free throw line, while adding three assists.
Kaia Peterson tied Schipp with a team-high 17 points. She shot 6-12 from the floor and 5-7 at the free throw line.
Katelyn Fennell added 13 points on 6-15 shooting from the field. She hauled in seven rebounds and recorded three steals.
Julia Meyer put up 11 points with five rebounds, while shooting 4-10 from the floor and 3-3 at the free throw line.
Sophia Reese recorded eight points, three rebounds, and two assists on 4-9 shooting.
María Godoy Rodriguez accumulated game-highs with five steals and five assists, while adding four points, four rebounds, and one block.
The Fightin' Engineers will continue the season on Saturday, January 3, as they host the Berea Mountaineers at 1 PM.
