TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman men's basketball team picked up a win over Bluffton on Saturday with a final score of 85-78. The win improves the team to 4-2 overall and 2-0 in the HCAC so far this season.
Cole Pride led the team in scoring with a season-high 23 points on 9-15 shooting from the field.
Daniel Savovic was also an impactful scorer with 20 points. Other double-figure scorers included
Nate Smith with 14 and
Will McElheney with 12. McElheney recorded his first career double-double, adding 10 rebounds to his stat line.
Christian Torres also made an impact on the boards with eight rebounds.
The game proved to be a competitive contest with the score remaining close in the first half. Rose-Hulman stood ahead 22-20 with 8:26 left on the clock. The Fightin' Engineers strung together a 10-2 run to build a substantial lead at 32-22 with 4:57 remaining before halftime.
The Beavers cut the lead down to one point on a made layup in the final two minutes to make the score 35-34. A made layup by
Cole Pride gave Rose-Hulman a three-point lead at 37-34 heading into the locker room for halftime.
The score remained close in the second half. Both teams stood tied at 71-71 with 3:31 remaining in the game. A quick 8-2 run, capped off by a made layup from
Nate Smith, put the Fightin' Engineers back in control with the score at 79-74 with 1:39 on the clock.
The team relied on strong free-throw shooting in the final minute to close out the game and secure the conference victory. Rose-Hulman narrowly out-rebounded the Beavers 36-35 and finished the night shooting 50.9% as a team.
The Fightin' Engineers will return to Hulbert Arena to host #5 WashU on Tuesday, December 6, at 4 PM.
