Men's Basketball Hosts MSJ in HCAC Tournament Quarterfinals

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology men's basketball team will open the HCAC Tournament by hosting Mount St. Joseph University on Saturday, February 22, at 4 PM. 

ROSE-HULMAN NOTES:

* The Fightin' Engineers finished the regular season with a record of 16-9 overall and 13-5 in the HCAC.
* The team locked in the #3 seed in the HCAC Tournament.
* Rose-Hulman has won their last four games against conference opponents. 
* The team wrapped up the regular season on Wednesday with a win over Earlham 101-78. 
Joey Schmitz leads the team with 13.8 points per game, 74 three-pointers made, and 43 steals in his breakout freshman campaign.
Miles McGowen has been another standout, averaging shy of a double-double with 12.5 points per game and 9.6 rebounds per game.
Kobe Stoudemire is also averaging double figures in scoring with 11.9 points per game and leads the team with 67 assists. 
* Schmitz broke the HCAC record for most three-pointers made in a single season recording 59 made triples on the year. 
* Rose-Hulman shattered the school record for three-pointers made in a single game with 20 triples earlier this season in their win over Manchester.
* The previous record of 15 made three-pointers was set in 2018, and the team's total was just one shy of the all-time HCAC record of 21, set back in 2014 by Defiance College.
Miles McGowen reached a career milestone earlier this season as he became the 33rd player in school history to join the 1,000-point club.
* He is the first Fightin' Engineer to reach this milestone since Craig McGee and John Czarnecki in 2020.
* Earlier this season, Rose-Hulman became just the fifth team in the last 21 years of the HCAC to start the conference season 7-0.
* The Fightin' Engineers were picked to finish fourth in the HCAC preseason coaches poll, receiving 53 poll points.
* With a win, the Fightin' Engineers will move on to the semifinal round of the HCAC Tournament hosted by the highest remaining seed. The team's opponent will depend on the outcome of other games.

MOUNT ST. JOSEPH NOTES:

* Mount St. Joseph University finished the regular season with a record of 12-13 overall and 8-10 in the HCAC. 
* The Lions have earned the #6 seed in the HCAC Tournament. 
* MSJ comes off a win over Berea with a final score of 83-76.
* Luke Collinsworth leads the team with 15.2 points per game and 7.2 rebounds per game. 
* Collinsworth also leads the team with 51 assists this season.
* Other double-figure scorers include Matthew Menninger (11.9), Michael Loftis (11.0), and Elisha Jones (10.1).
* MSJ was selected to finish eighth in the HCAC preseason poll receiving 26 points. 
* With a win, the Lions will move on to the semifinal round of the HCAC Tournament hosted by the highest remaining seed. The team's opponent will depend on the outcome of other games.

SERIES HISTORY:

* Rose-Hulman leads the all-time series between both teams with a record of 22-18 against the Lions. 
* The team has earned the season sweep over MSJ this year, defeating them with final scores of 65-57 and 78-66.
* The Fightin' Engineers have won three straight games over Mount St. Joseph.
* Rose-Hulman has an all-time home record of 13-7 when hosting the Lions.
