CINCINNATI, Ohio -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's basketball came up short in their HCAC Quarterfinal matchup with the Mount St. Joseph Lions in a 72-61 loss on Saturday afternoon.
It was a back and forth affair for the entire contest with neither team able to extend their past a pair of possessions for the majority of the contest.
The Fightin' Engineers led the game 31-27 at the half, their largest lead of the contest, but Mount St. Joseph would come out of the locker room with a flurry of buckets to take a 42-35 lead on a 13-2 run by the Lions.
Rose-Hulman would not go away as they ended the quarter on a 13-5 run to retake the lead heading into the final 10 minutes of action. The team would extend their lead to three at 55-52, but Mount St. Joseph would hold the Fightin' Engineers without a bucket for over five minutes as they finished the game on a 20-6 run to advance to the HCAC Semifinals.
Jamie Baum led the team with a team-high 22 points on 7-15 shooting from the floor.
Sophia Reese and
CK Gallegos Rodriguez each scored 13 points in the loss.
With the loss, the Fightin' Engineers end their season with a 12-14 record overall for the second straight season with a loss in the opening round of the HCAC Tournament.
