HANOVER, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's basketball team picked up a key HCAC road win on Wednesday night with a 76-70 victory over the Hanover Panthers.
Rose-Hulman stormed out of the gates in Collier Arena with a quick 16-9, and they would take a 20-17 lead at the end of the first after forcing seven turnovers in the first 10 minutes of the game.
The offensive success would continue in the second quarter as they would shoot 67% from the floor in the second period and take a 41-37 lead at the break.
The Panthers would come out of the locker room in a fury with a 12-0 to take the 49-41 lead, just 2:44 into the half. They would take their largest lead of the game at 61-51 late in the period, but Rose-Hulman responded with a pair of triples by
Julia Meyer and
Emilia Diaz to cut the lead to 63-57 at the end of the third.
The Fightin' Engineers opened the final period on a 12-3 run to turn a six-point deficit into a three-point lead at 69-66 with 5:14 to go. After a pair of Hanover buckets to retake the lead at 70-69, Rose-Hulman would close out the final 2:50 on a 7-0 run and hold the Panthers to just seven points in the final 10 minutes to pick up the 76-70 victory.
Jamie Baum led the Fightin' Engineers with 22 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists in the win.
Emma Schipp (16),
Julia Meyer (13), and
Emilia Diaz (11) also finished in double figures for Rose-Hulman.
CK Gallegos Rodriguez added 8 points with a team-high 4 assists, 3 steals, and 3 blocks.
With the win, Rose-Hulman improves to 10-11 overall and 7-7 in HCAC play. The Fightin' Engineers return to action on Saturday, February 8, at 1 PM as they travel to Anderson to battle the Ravens.
