LEXINGTON, Ky. -- The Rose-Hulman men's tennis team picked up a win over Transylvania on Saturday with a final score of 4-3 to claim the HCAC regular season title and the #1 seed in the HCAC Tournament. The win improves the team to 11-9 overall and 7-0 in the HCAC.
Rose-Hulman got off to a good start, sweeping the doubles matches. The No. 1 team of
Tim Eckermann and
Chris Lian won 6-4;
Grant Paradowski and
Ervin Perkowski won at No. 2 doubles 6-2; and
Eli McIntyre and
Ephraim Guthrie picked up a win at the No. 3 spot 6-2.Â
The match got interesting when the Pioneers bounced back to tie the score at 3-3. Paradowski earned a win at No. 3 singles in a hard-fought match 7-5, 6-7 (5-7), 7-6 (7-4). Lian won at No. 5 singles 7-6 (9-7), 6-1.Â
The match came down to the No. 6 singles competitors for each team. McIntyre was the hero of the day for the Fightin' Engineers, picking up the match-winning point after defeating his opponent with a score of 6-2, 6-4.Â
Rose-Hulman will get the first-round bye in the postseason tournament. The team will return to action, competing in the semifinal round of the HCAC Tournament on Saturday, May 3, in Indianapolis, Indiana.Â
