ALBION, Mich. -- The Rose-Hulman football team suffered a road loss to Albion on Saturday with a final score of 25-17. This drops the Fightin' Engineers to 0-3 overall this season.
Jay Smith led the Fightin' Engineers in the ground game, totaling 101 yards rushing and one rushing touchdown.
Adam Yue had a quality start under center, finishing the game with 150 yards passing and one passing touchdown.
Kolton Nanko led the receiving core with eight catches for 43 yards and a receiving touchdown.
Rudy Griffing was the standout on defense, leading the team with 10 tackles.
Evan Gass had a team-high 1.0 tackle for loss and 1.0 sack in the contest.
Austin Hastings also made an impact with two forced fumbles.
Albion got off to a strong start, jumping to a 10-0 lead to start the game. Rose-Hulman got on the board before halftime after capitalizing on a 19-play, 64-yard drive with a 28-yard field goal by
Trevor Saguto to make the score 10-3 with time expiring in the first half.
After two Albion field goals made the score 16-3, Rose-Hulman closed the gap with a nine-play, 75-yard drive that ended in a one-yard rushing touchdown by
Jay Smith to cut the Albion lead to just one score.
The Britons were able to extend their lead with a 65-yard touchdown reception at the end of the third quarter. After a blocked extra point by
Augustus Shryock, the score stood at 22-10. Another field goal by Albion in the fourth quarter would build their lead once again to 25-10.
Rose-Hulman would reach the end zone once more, on a five-yard pass from Yue to Nanko with 2:09 remaining in the game. The Fightin' Engineers would run out of time to complete the comeback and suffered the loss to Albion with a final score of 25-17.
The Rose-Hulman football team will take their bye week, then return to action, opening HCAC play hosting Hanover for Homecoming on Saturday, October 4, at 2 PM.
