ADA, Ohio. – Rose-Hulman tied with nationally ranked Ohio Northern on the road, drawing with the #11-Polar Bears by a score of 1-1.
The Fightin' Engineers got on the attack early, with sophomore
Ryan Shapiro firing a shot that sailed wide right three minutes in.
Sophomore
Eli Miller recorded the team's first shot on goal a minute later, where his shot down the middle was saved by Carson Zurmehly. He added another shot on goal in the 16
th which was also saved in the bottom left corner.
The Polar Bears would jump into the lead in the 26
th minute, with Miles Armstrong scoring the opening goal on an assist from Tanner Locke. The Fightin' Engineers would nearly tie the game less than a minute later, but junior
Chase Kedzior's shot went wide left.
Two minutes prior to the half, senior
Weston Seybold scored his second goal in the past three games, on an assist from sophomore
Ryan Shapiro.
The goal tied the match at 1-1, concluding a very even 45 minutes of action where both teams attempted two corner kicks, while Ohio Northern outshot Rose-Hulman 7-6.
Ohio Northern would dominate possession at the start of the second half, while attempting seven shots with three corner kicks from the 50
th-64
th minute marks.
Freshman
Justin Burns recorded his first save of the match right in the 64
th minute, preserving the tie with Ohio Northern.
Miller recorded his third shot on goal in the 81
st minute, which would also be saved. Both Shapiro and Miller added shots that just missed the goal in the 85
th and 89
th minutes of action, which concluded the game in a 1-1 tie.
In Rose-Hulman's tie with the nationally ranked Polar Bears, Ohio Northern outshot RHIT 16-11, while also attempting eight corner kicks to Rose-Hulman's three.
The Fightin' Engineers will return to Terre Haute for their first conference match-up of the season against Berea. The game will be held, Saturday, September 27 at 3:30 PM.
