LEXINGTON, Ky. -- The Rose-Hulman Fightin' Engineers traveled to face Transylvania in HCAC action on Saturday. The team suffered a loss to the Pioneers with a final score of 65-63. The loss drops Rose-Hulman to 8-6 overall and 5-2 in the HCAC.
Daniel Savovic led the team with 17 points in the game. The team had four other players with nine points, including
Christian Torres,
Nate Smith,
Evan Gentile, and
Jack Jenniges. Torres and Jenniges were the top rebounders for Rose-Hulman with six rebounds each.
The Fightin' Engineers struggled to get going offensively in the first half. Transylvania built a 17-point lead with the score at 24-7 with 11:07 remaining in the half. Rose-Hulman battled back to decrease the deficit to eight on a made jumper by Savovic to make the score 33-25 heading into halftime.
Rose-Hulman fought hard to get within striking distance in the second half. The team trailed by 14 points with the score at 62-48 with 2:34 remaining in the game. The Fightin' Engineers put together a 13-2 run, capped off by a made three-pointer by Savovic to make the score 64-61 with seven seconds remaining.
Transylvania was able to hold off the Fightin' Engineers' comeback attempt to hand the team their second conference loss of the season.
Rose-Hulman will look to bounce back at home against the Hanover Panthers on Wednesday, January 14, at 7:30 PM.
