TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman men's basketball team picked up an impressive win over the Berea Mountaineers with a final score of 96-64. The win improves the team to 8-4 overall and keeps them undefeated at the top of the conference with a record of 5-0.
Evan Gentile erupted for a career-high 28 points to lead the Fightin' Engineers. He was the hot hand the entire night, shooting 10-13 from the field and 6-9 from beyond the arc. Gentile also finished the game with five rebounds and four assists.
Joey Schmitz also had an outstanding game with 17 points on 6-11 shooting and 5-8 from beyond the arc.
Christian Torres was the other double-digit scorer for Rose-Hulman, finishing the game with a double-double, totaling 14 points and a team-high 10 rebounds.
Rose-Hulman started the game off strong, jumping to a 23-point lead after a made three-pointer by Gentile made the score 34-11 with 9:25 on the clock in the first half. The Fightin' Engineers maintained their lead to stand ahead 55-29 at the halftime break.
Rose-Hulman continued to pour it on in the second half. A made layup by
Nate Smith with 8:15 left on the clock gave the team their largest lead of the day at 38 points, with the score at 83-45. The Fightin' Engineers held on to defeat the Mountaineers and remain undefeated in the HCAC.
Rose was on fire all game, finishing the contest shooting 56.9% from the field and 48.6% from beyond the arc. The team made their way into the record book ranking second for most three-pointers made by a Rose-Hulman team in a single game with 17. The current record is 20, set by the team last season in 2025 against Manchester.
Rose-Hulman will continue their conference schedule, traveling to face Mount St. Joseph on Wednesday, January 7, at 7:30 PM.
