Fourth Quarter Surge Pushes the Pioneers Past Rose-Hulman

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Fightin' Engineers were unable to take down Transylvania, as the Pioneers recorded a 62-44 win.
 
The Pioneers were able to take over the first quarter where they outscored Rose-Hulman 19-6. Emma Schipp and Sophia Reese each scored early baskets in the paint, and Julia Meyer added a layup with a minute left in the first.
 
The Fightin' Engineers completely flipped the script in the second quarter, where they outscored Transylvania 17-4. Sophia Reese led off the second with a pair of mid-range jumpers, and a block by Schipp resulted in her scoring at the other end.
 
Katelyn Fennell added a pair of free throws late in the quarter, and she tied the game at 23 apiece, swishing a three pointer.
 
Fennell opened the third with a bucket in the paint, before CK Gallegos Rodriguez recorded a steal and a layup two possessions later. The Fightin' Engineers were able to stretch their lead to six, as Fennell added consecutive two-pointers to make it a 33-27 game.
 
The Pioneers were able to tie the game at 33 apiece, but Rose-Hulman would respond with a pull-up jumper from Reese. Transylvania closed out the quarter on a 7-0 run, where they entered the fourth up 40-37.
 
Transylvania would carry that momentum into the fourth quarter, where they outscored Rose-Hulman 22-7. María Godoy Rodriguez and Kaia Peterson each scored on jump shots near the hoop, but the Pioneers were able to secure the 62-44 win.
 
Katelyn Fennell scored a team-high 13 points, shooting 4-12 from the floor, 1-2 from three, and 4-4 at the charity stripe. She hauled in a team-best seven rebounds, while recording one steal and one block.
 
Emma Schipp added nine points while matching Fennell with seven rebounds. She added two assists, one steal, and a game-high two blocks.
 
Sophia Reese scored eight points on 4-11 shooting with a team-high four assists plus one steal.
 
Kaia Peterson added six points, five rebounds and one steal, while shooting 3-6 from the floor.
 
Rose-Hulman will continue their homestand on Wednesday, February 4 at 7 PM against Hanover.
