Football Thrashes Anderson in HCAC Blowout

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman football team took care of business on Saturday, defeating Anderson with a final score of 52-21 to remain unbeaten in the HCAC this season. The Fightin' Engineers now stand at 4-1 overall and 2-0 in the conference.

Brock Zanetell had a season-high 328 passing yards and two passing touchdowns. Alexander Marsteller led the team in the run game with 100 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns. Joseph Alexion was the top receiver with 114 yards and one receiving touchdown.

Austing Hastings led the defense with five tackles and a forced fumble. Rose had four players record a sack, including William Fleck, Jack LeCrone, Trevor Zielke, and Anthony Huegen. Wyatt Bell led the secondary with four tackles and a key interception.

After Anderson stalled on their opening drive, Rose-Hulman started their first drive on their own 38-yard line. Zanetell connected with Avery Cody on a 57-yard bomb to take the Fightin' Engineers all the way down to the Anderson five-yard line. Marsteller was able to punch it in from four yards out to put the team up 7-0 to start the game.

In the second quarter, Rose-Hulman added to their lead, finishing off an 11-play, 78-yard drive with an eight-yard passing touchdown from Zanetell to Alexion to make the score 14-0.

On the next Ravens' drive, the Fightin' Engineers defense made their presence felt, with Trevor Zielke forcing a fumble that was recovered by Joseph Coveliers to give the ball back to the offense.

Rose made the most of the opportunity, driving 53 yards in four plays to score a 26-yard rushing touchdown by Marsteller, making the score 21-0.

Anderson was able to answer with a scoring drive, going 76 yards in four plays, reaching the end zone to cut the deficit to 21-7.

The Fightin' Engineers reached the end zone one more time before the halftime break, going 76 yards in eight plays, scoring on a 26-yard receiving touchdown by Drew Dalton to make the score 28-7.

Rose-Hulman put together a long drive to start the second half. The team ate up three minutes and 48 seconds, going 84 yards in 10 plays. Austin Porter reached the end zone on a 17-yard rush, extending the team's lead to 35-7.

The Rose defense came up big again on the next Anderson drive. Bell came up with an impressive interception, tipping the ball back to himself to set the Fightin' Engineers up on the Anderson 45-yard line.

The team drove all the way down to the goal line, scoring on a one-yard rush by Marsteller for his third touchdown of the day to make the score 42-7.

After another Anderson touchdown made the score 42-14, the Fightin' Engineers put together an 11-play, 38-yard drive that ended in a 25-yard field goal by Cohen Peters to extend the lead once again to 45-14.

The Fightin' Engineers' backups entered the game, taking advantage of the opportunity. Nate Desmond led the team down the field, connecting with Matthew Cress for a 16-yard passing touchdown to make the score 52-14.

Anderson would score once more to make the score 52-21, but the Fightin' Engineers would come away with the dominant win to remain undefeated in the HCAC.

The Fightin' Engineers football team will return home to face #25 Heidelberg on Saturday, October 17, at 1 PM.
