Rose-Hulman Topples the Lions in Dominant Victory

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Fightin' Engineers thrived on both ends of the field as they defeated the Mt. St. Joseph Lions 3-0.

Eli Miller put together a terrific first half, where he started the game by firing a shot on goal just one minute into the match. He would follow that up by adding another shot on goal which would also be saved in the 23rd minute.

Just two minutes later, Miller dribbled downfield, cut to the left to beat the Lions defender, and sailed his shot into the top right corner of the goal to put the Fightin' Engineers up 1-0. He finished the half with four shots on goal, as he added another strike on target in the 30th minute.

With less than two minutes left in the half, Ryan Shapiro nearly had the highlight of the match, as he made his defender fall, dribbled past another two defenders, and fired a shot that sailed just right of the goal.

The Fightin' Engineers would conclude the half with a 1-0 lead, recording 11 total shots to Mt. St. Joseph's one.

The Fightin' Engineers would earn a corner kick ten minutes into the second half. Oliver Fila lobbed his corner kick towards the goal, where it sailed into the top right corner of the net for a sensational goal, putting Rose-Hulman ahead 2-0.

The Lions would add a shot on goal in the 78th minute, which was easily secured by Justin Burns. Two minutes later, Miller added a shot that was blocked, and Freddie Harris recovered the deflection, but his shot from up close was deflected away.

The Fightin' Engineers defense stole possession at midfield, before Andrew Kasbeer-Betty made a downfield pass to Shapiro. Shapiro dribbled down the right side, and he rolled his shot past the outstretched arms of the keeper, into the right corner of the goal to secure the 3-0 victory.

The Fightin' Engineers finished the match by outshooting the Lions 23-4, where they totaled nine shots on goal while allowing just two.

Rose-Hulman will continue the season against Franklin on the road, Wednesday, October 14 at 7 PM.
