Rose-Hulman Overthrows the Spartans to Secure #4 Seed in the HCAC Tournament

NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. – Rose-Hulman records their sixth shutout in a row as they take down the Manchester Spartans 1-0.

The Fightin' Engineers opened the game by firing on all cylinders as they attempted six shots on goal across the first 11 minutes of the match. Lena Darini and Elizabeth Becklund each attempted two shots on goal early into the game, which were all saved by Reagan Claus.

Darini added her third shot on goal in the 23rd minute, but she was unable to find the back of the net. Both teams concluded the half in a 0-0 tie, where the Fightin' Engineers defense did not give up a single shot.

Makayla Doherty subbed into the game to start the second half, and she would make an immediate impact. After being on the field for less than two minutes, Doherty's first shot found the back of the net, putting Rose-Hulman ahead on an assist from Taylor Beede.

Doherty and Meagan Hall each added a pair of shots on goal seven minutes later, but they were unable to beat Manchester's keeper.

On the defensive end, Alicia Gonzalez secured her only save of the game, as she hauled in a shot down the middle in the 56th minute.

Doherty added two more shots on goal in the 66th and 68th minutes, and she finished the match with four shots on target. The Fightin' Engineers earned a corner kick in the 84th minute, which resulted in Isabel Perron firing a high shot on goal that was saved.

Iliana Hernandez added Rose-Hulman's final shot on goal four minutes later, where the team secured a 1-0 win. The Fightin' Engineers dominated on both ends of the field, as they attempted 31 total shots, which included 17 shots on goal. Their defense would give up just one shot on goal, while also allowing only one corner kick.

The Fightin' Engineers have clinched the #4-seed in the HCAC Tournament. They will host #5-seed Anderson on Saturday, October 31, at 7 PM in the HCAC Quarterfinals.
