Rose-Hulman Bested by Panthers on Homecoming

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Rose-Hulman dropped to 1-1 in the HCAC, as they came up shy of the Hanover Panthers by a score of 1-0 on Homecoming.

The Fightin' Engineers would nearly score early as Ryan Shapiro made a perfect pass towards goal in the third minute to Eli Miller, whose short just sailed over the goal. Shapiro would continue to make an impact in the 19th minute, where he drew a foul right outside the box, after dribbling through multiple Hanover defenders. This resulted in another Rose-Hulman scoring opportunity, where their free kick would sail over the net.

Justin Burns hauled in his first save in the 28th minute, securing a diving save from the left side of the box. He recorded another diving save in the 55th minute, before adding a save in the 65th minute as well.

The Fightin' Engineers were awarded a 67th minute corner kick, where Andrew Kasbeer-Betty's shot on goal was saved by Dugan Webster.

The Panthers were able to capitalize in the 71st minute, as David Betz fired a strike into the back of the net off an assist from Cole Hubert.

With Rose-Hulman deep in Hanover territory in the 80th minute, Benjamin Murphy dribbled past the defense, before firing a shot on goal that was caught by the keeper. Just four minutes later, Pace Morel ripped a shot from the left side of the field, that sailed over Hanover's goalie, before deflecting off the inside of the post.

The Fightin' Engineers would add one final header on goal which came from goalkeeper, Burns in the final minute. Unfortunately, Burns' shot towards the goal was saved as Hanover snuck by with the 1-0 win.

Both teams recorded four saves, while the Fightin' Engineers would outshoot the Panthers 14-9.

Rose-Hulman will continue the season against Anderson on the road on Wednesday, October 7 at 7 PM.
