Volleyball Drops HCAC Opener Against MSJ

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman volleyball team suffered a loss to the Mount St. Joseph Lions in their HCAC Opener on Homecoming Weekend. The team fell to the Lions with a score of 3-1 and set scores of 25-18, 22-25, 21-25, 22-25. The loss drops the team to 3-11 overall and 0-1 in the HCAC. 

The Fightin' Engineers had three players reach double figures in kills. Greta Carlson led the way with 20 kills in the match. Kaia Schroeder followed her with 15 kills, and Keira Ohse also reached double digits with 11 kills. 

Julia Irmen was the top setter for Rose-Hulman, finishing the match with 44 assists. The defense was led by Shae Clements with 25 digs on the day. 

The Fightin' Engineers set the tone in the first set of the match. After leading for most of the set, Rose-Hulman stood ahead 19-18 down the stretch. The Fightin' Engineers finished off the Lions with a 6-0 run to claim the win and take the lead in the match. 

The Mount St. Joseph Lions answered by winning three tight sets in a row to defeat the Fightin' Engineers and hand them their first loss in conference play this season.

The Rose-Hulman women's volleyball team will return to action on the road against Webster on Thursday, October 8, at 8 PM ET.
