RICHMOND, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman men's basketball team picked up a road win over Earlham to wrap up their regular season. The team defeated the Quakers with a final score of 66-49 to advance to 16-9 overall and 13-5 in the HCAC this season.
Joey Schmitz had another outstanding game to lead the Fightin' Engineers. Schmitz totaled 25 points, five rebounds, and four steals on the night. He finished the game, shooting 10-21 and 4-9 from beyond the arc.
Will McElheney led the team on the glass with 13 rebounds, while adding seven points in the contest. Other standouts included
Kobe Stoudemire and
Cole Pride with eight points each.
The game started off slow for both teams. Both offenses struggled to get going with the score at 5-4 after the first eight minutes of play.
The Fightin' Engineers caught fire from three, putting together a 16-1 run that consisted of four three-pointers to make the score 21-5.
The team finished the half strong to build their lead to 20 points on a made layup by Stoudemire to move the score to 38-18 at the halftime break.
Rose-Hulman dominated in the second half, holding onto their lead for the remainder of the evening to win their final game of the regular season and solidify a top-three seed in the HCAC Tournament.
The Fightin' Engineers will host their opening round game of the HCAC Tournament on Saturday, February 21, at 2 PM. The team will either end the season as the two or three seed in the tournament, depending on the league results on Wednesday night.
