Men's Basketball Season Ends in Last-Second Defeat to Anderson in HCAC Semifinal

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- The Rose-Hulman men's basketball team closed out the 2025-26 season with a loss to Anderson in the semifinal round of the HCAC Tournament with a final score of 74-73.

Joey Schmitz was exceptional for the Fightin' Engineers with a team-high 26 points, shooting 9-18 from the floor and 6-11 from three.

The team had two players record double-doubles, including Christian Torres with 19 points and 10 rebounds, and Cole Pride with 10 points and a team-high 11 rebounds.

The game proved to be a battle from the start with countless lead changes. The Ravens took the one-point advantage in the final seconds of the first half to stand ahead 39-38 at the halftime break.

The Ravens held the momentum going into the second period. Anderson built a 10-point lead with the score at 61-51 with 9:11 remaining in the contest.

Rose-Hulman would not go away, putting together a 17-8 run to cut the deficit to one point on a made tip-in layup by Pride to make the score 69-68 with 3:25 remaining.

Down the stretch, Rose-Hulman trailed by one point after two made free throws by Torres made the score 72-71 in the final minute. A costly turnover by the Ravens gave the Fightin' Engineers the ball back with a chance to take the lead with 29 seconds left on the clock.

A missed shot led to an offensive rebound by Kobe Stoudemire, who was able to get to the basket for the go-ahead layup, giving Rose-Hulman the lead 73-72 with eight seconds remaining.

Anderson was able to push the pace and find a cutting Demonte Ferguson, who converted the game-winning shot in the final seconds to defeat the Fightin' Engineers.

The Fightin' Engineers end the year with a record of 17-10 overall and a regular season mark of 13-5 in the HCAC.
