Rose-Hulman Beats Down the Beavers in Series Sweep

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Rose-Hulman accumulated two high-scoring victories as they took down the Bluffton Beavers 13-3 in eight innings in game one, and 9-0 in game two.

Game One
The Beavers would record a triple early in the second inning, as Jake McCoy's hit sailed to deep right field. He would score the opening run of the game, as Sam Archambeau hit an RBI single through the left side.

Camden Judson struck out two batters in the third inning, and he added another strikeout to lead off the fourth.

Following Jackson Harms being walked, Connor O'Connell hit a stand-up double that bounced off the right field wall. Mason Rasmussen would add a stand-up double of his own during the very next at-bat, as his RBI to left center field brought both Harms and O'Connell home.

With M. Rasmussen at third base, Sam Erickson added to the lead with a line drive single to right field. Erickson would make it home to close out the inning, as Issei Takahashi hit a sacrifice fly to center field, which put Rose-Hulman ahead 4-1.

Harms recorded his team-leading sixth home run of the season as he cracked the first pitch he faced over the left field wall in the fifth inning. Following a walk to O'Connell, M. Rasmussen and Michael Hines would load the bases with a pair of singles. With one out, N. Rasmussen hit an RBI single to center field to bring O'Connell home, before M. Rasmussen would score on a groundout during the very next play.

The Beavers would put two runners on in the top of the sixth, as McCoy doubled out to right field. With two runners in scoring position, Bluffton scored two unearned runs following a fielding error from the Fightin' Engineers.

Hines singled through the left side to start the bottom of the seventh, and he scored on an RBI double to deep center field from N. Rasmussen. Jackson Summers would follow that up with a near home run, as his RBI double hit off the top of the center field wall. He would still score regardless, as Takahashi hit an RBI line drive single to left field, which stretched the lead to 10-3.

O'Connell and M. Rasmussen each drew walks to put two runners on with no outs in the bottom of the eighth. Hines would then step up to the plate, and he smacked a three-run homer over the right field wall, resulting in a 13-3 mercy rule victory for the Fightin' Engineers.

Judson picked up his fourth win of the season, while striking out five batters. He gave up just one earned run across 7.0 innings.

Game Two
Brad Nardi got off to a hot start in game two, as he struck out two batters in the first, and another two batters in the second inning, who all went down looking.

M. Rasmussen was walked in the bottom of the second, before RHIT loaded the bases on a pair of singles from TJ Pipkins and Hines. They would score their first run of the game, as N. Rasmussen drew a walk on a full count.

Erickson reached first on a fielder's choice, and he picked up an RBI as Pipkins scored on the play. With the bases loaded once again, Summers recorded a two RBI single to center field, where Hines' and N. Rasmussen's runs made it a 4-0 game.

Harms singled to left field to begin the bottom of the third, and he advanced to second on a groundout. M. Rasmussen hit a stand-up RBI double to deep right-center field, bringing Harms home. Pipkins followed that up with an RBI single on grounder through the right side where M. Rasmussen scored Rose's sixth run of the game.

Nardi would continue to thrive on the mound as he struck out back-to-back batters to wrap up the top of the fifth.

Following Erickson's walk in the bottom of the seventh, Summers hit another double, which went out to deep right field. Erickson would score on Takahashi's sacrifice fly as the Fightin' Engineers concluded the seventh with a seven-run lead.

Pipkins added a double of his own to right field early in the eighth inning. RHIT loaded the bases with two outs, as Hines was walked and Erickson reached on a fielding error. Hines and Pipkins would both score on an RBI single to right field, where the Fightin' Engineers were able to sweep the series with a 9-0 win.

Brad Nardi recorded a career-high seven strikeouts as he improves to 3-2 on the year. He allowed just two hits across 6.0 innings. Andrew Noblitt closed out the game with a save, while striking out two batters in 3.0 innings.
