Panthers Hold off Rose-Hulman in Back-And-Forth Battle

HANOVER, Ind. – The Fightin' Engineers dropped their first of a three-game series against the Hanover Panthers by a score of 9-7.
 
Mason Rasmussen scored Rose-Hulman's first run of the game with a solo home run in the second inning, which tied the game at 1-1. The Panthers would respond with a three-run homer in the bottom half of the inning to take back their lead.
 
At the top of the third inning, Sam Erickson reached first on an error before advancing to third on a single to center field from Jackson Summers. With two outs, Connor O'Connell singled to third base, where he picked up an RBI as Erickson scored on the play. Jackson Harms would follow that up with his fourth home run of the season, where his three RBIs put Rose-Hulman ahead 5-4.
 
Following back-to-back strikeouts, Hanover managed to hit three consecutive singles to the outfield, where they tied the game at five runs apiece in the fifth. At the top of the seventh, Connor O'Connell reached first as he was intentionally walked. Harms would then record his fourth RBI of the day as he doubled to center field, bringing O'Connell home.
 
The Panthers hit a double to center field in the bottom of the seventh, and they tied the game once again on a single to center field. With runners on second and third, they would take a 7-6 lead on a sacrifice fly to deep center field.
 
M. Rasmussen scored his second run of the game in the eighth inning, as Michael Hines was walked with the bases loaded. The Panthers led off the latter half of the inning with a double to left field, and they jumped into the lead on an RBI single to left field. Following a Rose-Hulman pick-off at second base, Jack Shaeffer hit a solo home run, which secured the 9-7 win for Hanover.
 
The Fightin' Engineers will conclude their series with Hanover tomorrow, Monday, April 6, with a double header at 1 and 4 PM.
