LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Pioneers were able to defend home field from the Fightin' Engineers, as Transylvania won game one 8-7 in extra innings, and game two by a score of 10-0 in eight innings.
Game One
The Fightin' Engineers scored seven runs on 14 hits, while the Pioneers posted eight runs on 16 hits.
Jackson Summers gave Rose-Hulman an early lead in the second inning, as he smacked a two-RBI double to left field.
Mason Rasmussen added another two RBIs of his own early in the fifth inning, as he hit a double down the left field line. The Fightin' Engineers' fifth-inning success would continue, as they added three more runs on a pair of singles and a walk with the bases loaded.
Noah Rasmussen hit 3-4 in the game, while scoring the opening run. Summers and M. Rasmussen each added two hits, while hitting a team-high two RBIs. All seven of Rose-Hulman's runs came from a different player, while all nine starters recorded at least one hit.
Camden Judson struck out a team-high four batters, while
Andrew Noblitt and
Tyler Orr added two strikeouts.
Game Two
The Pioneers built on their success from game one to take game two by a score of 10-0.
Summers, M. Rasmussen, and
Jackson Harms each recorded one hit, with Summers hitting a double once again down the third base line.
Jack Reeves had a stellar showing on the mound, as he allowed just one hit and no earned runs across two innings pitched.
The Fightin' Engineers have concluded the regular season with a 22-17 record while going 13-9 in the HCAC to clinch the #3-seed. The team will open the HCAC Tournament on Thursday, May 7, in Kokomo, Ind., at a time that is yet to be determined.
