TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Rose-Hulman athletic department will be featuring multiple student-athletes across all of their varsity sports teams this summer in the Fightin' Engineers to Watch media campaign.
 
Women's basketball's Fightin' Engineer to Watch is point guard Sophia Reese as she enters her senior season.
 
Reese had a successful junior season where she scored 10.3 points per game while starting in all 20 games she appeared in. She finished fourth in the HCAC with an average of 3.7 assists per game, totaling 74 assists on the season. Reese added 2.5 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game, while leading the entire HCAC in free throw percentage, shooting 87.5% (42-48).
 
Reese's experience on the Rose-Hulman women's basketball team has been incredibly rewarding, challenging, and fulfilling. "My time at Rose has been full of highs that make you proud of yourself and the people around you, as well as the occasional lows that remind you just how strong your support system truly is," said Reese. "I am a part of a team that wants you to succeed just as much as you want it for yourself, and it is something I never take for granted. Looking ahead, my goal is to continue growing as both a player and leader, while making the most of every opportunity I have wearing a Rose-Hulman jersey."
 
The Jeffersonville, Indiana native helped lead Rose-Hulman back to the HCAC Tournament for the third consecutive season. She scored in double figures in 12 of her final 15 games, highlighted by a career-high 21 points against Mt. St. Joseph. In the win over MSJ, Reese would shoot 7-10 from the floor, and a perfect 3-3 from three-point range, and 4-4 at the free throw line. She recorded two near double doubles, as she scored 12 points with nine assists against Berea and 13 points with nine assists against Bluffton.
 
Reese is pursuing a degree in biomedical engineering, and she has had the opportunity to stay home in Louisville, Kentucky, while shadowing and connecting with members of Zimmer Biomet's local sales division. "This opportunity has given me a different perspective on the medical device industry, and it has shown me another side of the field that I haven't experienced before," said Reese. Outside of work, Reese has been able to go to concerts and see live music with her teammates this summer, which have been some of her favorite memories outside of basketball.
 
What Reese most enjoys about being a Rose-Hulman student-athlete, is the sense of pride that she gets to carry with her every day. "I am proud to be earning an incredible education while playing the sport I love. I am proud to call these girls my teammates, and I am proud of the support system I have behind me as I navigate some of the most important years of my life. What we have at Rose-Hulman is special, and I am so proud to answer "Rose" every time someone asks where I go to school."
 
The Fightin' Engineers will tip off the 2026-27 season in November at dates that are yet to be determined.
