Volleyball Tops Illinois Wesleyan, Falls to Defiance

TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology swept Illinois Wesleyan University in three sets after falling to Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference rival Defiance College in three sets in a pair of home volleyball matches on Saturday.

Rose-Hulman topped Illinois Wesleyan 25-23, 25-17, 25-22 behind a strong hitting and blocking performance.  Sophomore Sarah Jensen (Overland Park, Kan./Blue Valley Northwest) recorded her sixth triple-double of the season with 12 kills, 19 assists and 11 digs to lead the effort.

Senior Casey Levitt (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Westlake) added 10 kills and 11 digs, while freshman Morgan Dreyer (Batesville, Ind.) had 25 assists and seven kills for the offensive attack. 

The balanced effort also included freshman Emily McLendon (Lexington, Ky./Henry Clay) with eight kills, and freshman Katelyn Race (Columbia, Mo./Rock Bridge) with seven kills and four block assists.

Senior Catherine Fiutem (Harrison, Ohio/Oldenburg Academy) provided strong front row play with seven block assists and six kills.  Senior Kate Dangel (Upper Arlington, Ohio) had 22 digs and five players added one service ace each.

Defiance topped Rose-Hulman 25-16, 25-8, 25-15 to move to 20-5 overall and 7-0 in HCAC play.  Levitt and Race had five kills each, Dreyer had a team-high 13 assists and Dangel led the defense with 19 digs in the match.

Rose-Hulman stands 13-17 overall and 3-4 in HCAC play entering Wednesday night's matchup at Franklin.
