Volleyball Tops Concordia, Falls to Trine on Friday

GREENCASTLE, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology swept Concordia-Chicago and fell in three sets to Trine University on Friday at the DePauw University Invitational.

In the opener, Rose-Hulman cruised past the Cougars for a 25-8, 25-14, 25-9 victory.  Trine battled the Fightin' Engineers in three close sets before claiming a 27-25, 25-18, 25-22 victory in the nightcap.

Against Concordia, sophomore Sarah Jensen (Overland Park, Kan./Blue Valley Northwest) led the offensive effort with 12 kills and added 12 assists.  Freshman Katie Ward (Marengo, Ill.) contributed nine kills, and freshman Morgan Dreyer (Batesville) paced Rose-Hulman with 24 assists.

Jensen joined senior Casey Levitt (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Westlake) with three service aces.  Defensively, senior Kate Dangel (Upper Arlington, Ohio) tallied a team-high 13 digs, with Dreyer and Levitt pitching in with 11.  Freshman Katelyn Race (Columbia, Mo./Rock Bridge) led the blocking effort with one solo and two assists.

Against Trine, Jensen again paced the Engineers with nine kills.  Senior Catherine Fiutem (Harrison, Ohio/Oldenburg Academy) and Ward had seven kills each.

Dreyer had a team-high 15 assists, with Dangel leading three players in double figures with 16 digs.  Race added one solo block and one assist.

Rose-Hulman returns to action with two more matches on Saturday.  The Fightin' Engineers face Olivet College at noon, before facing host DePauw at 2 p.m.
