RHIT battles to scoreless draw with Transylvania

BOX SCORE

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology men's soccer team battled to a scoreless draw with Transylvania University in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) play, Saturday, Oct. 11.

The best chance for either team in regulation came in the 15th minute in favor of the Fightin' Engineers. A corner kick from junior Dieter Schultz found the head of sophomore Nick Kowalkowski who headed the ball down towards the far post. A Pioneer defender was standing at the far post, and cleared the ball from danger.

The Engineers had their chances in the second overtime session. A shot from sophomore Brad Rostron sailed just wide of the far post three minutes into the period. A minute later, a header form freshman Austin Webb sailed just over the crossbar. With less than four minutes to play in double overtime, Webb sent a ball through the Pioneer defense finding the feet of freshman Turner Perkins, whose shot fell into the hands of Transylvania goalkeeper Taylor Nossokoff.

Senior goalkeeper Drew Miller made two saves while notching his seventh shutout including the 29th of his career.

Rose-Hulman outshot Transylvania 11-9 in the contest including a 3-1 advantage in the second overtime. The Engineers also held a slight 7-6 edge in corner kicks.

Dating back to 2012, the draw marked the fourth consecutive game that Rose-Hulman and Transylvania have gone to double overtime.

The Engineers stand at 7-3-3 on the season including an unbeaten mark of 2-0-1 in HCAC play. Rose-Hulman returns to action Wednesday, Oct. 15 for a 7:30 p.m. game at Franklin.
