FRANKLIN, Ind. - 110 minutes of soccer did not yield a goal as the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's soccer team left Franklin College with a 0-0 draw in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) play Tuesday, Oct. 14.
Both teams took 10 shots in the contest, but it was the Fightin' Engineers who put the pressure on in the overtime periods outshooting the Grizzlies 4-0. Franklin held a slight edge in shots on goal 6-5.
Rose-Hulman played a player up from the 86th minute on due to a red card on Franklin.
Junior goalkeeper Lucinda Combs, aided by the Engineer defense, tallied five saves in the contest while earning her eighth shutout of the season and 27th of her career.
Offensively, four Engineers fired two shots. Freshman Madeline Romeo fired both of her shots on target while seniors Mackenzie Christensen and Haley O'Neil along with junior Kate DeMoss each fired one on target.
"The girls played so well tonight," head coach Amy Helliwell said. "We possessed the ball well and won almost every 50/50 ball."
Rose-Hulman's record stands at 8-3-1 overall and 2-1-1 in HCAC play. The Engineers return to action Saturday, Oct. 18 for a 1 p.m. game at Manchester.
