Women's Tennis Plays Two HCAC Matches this Weekend

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's tennis team plays two key Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) matches over the weekend, traveling to Earlham on Saturday, Oct. 4 and returning home for a match against Franklin on Sunday, Oct. 5. The match at Earlham is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. while the Franklin match is slated to start at noon.

The Fightin' Engineers come into the weekend with a 4-1 record including a 2-0 mark in HCAC competition. Rose-Hulman dropped its season-opening match to Hanover, but has since won four straight matches including 9-0 sweeps of HCAC opponents Mount St. Joseph and Defiance.

Freshman Isabella Evans has yet to lose a collegiate match in singles. The Mission Viejo, Calif., native is 5-0 (2-0 at first singles and 3-0 at second singles) in singles to go along with a 4-1 mark in doubles competition. Junior Lauren Miller has one loss in both singles and doubles play this season.

Earlham comes into the match with a 2-7 record on the season. The Quakers stand at 1-5 in HCAC play with their lone victory being a 9-0 sweep of Defiance.

Franklin, Rose-Hulman's opponent on Sunday, enters the match with a 5-2 record. Despite an early-season loss to IU-Southeast, the Grizzlies won their first four HCAC matches before falling to defending champion Hanover 6-3 on Wednesday, Oct. 1.

"Earlham has two girls at the top who are pretty decent," head coach Dan Hopkins said. "The Franklin match could be the match that determines who finishes second in the league. Anything can happen."

Rose-Hulman will play its final three HCAC matches in as many days the following weekend. The Engineers travel to Anderson (Oct. 10) and Transylvania (Oct. 11) before returning home for a noon match with Manchester (Oct. 12).
