TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology men's soccer team lost its first Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) game Wednesday, Oct. 22 when the Engineers fell to Earlham College 2-1 in overtime.
Earlham, which came into the contest with a 1-10-3 mark overall, opened the scoring in the 29th minute. Jacob Ebbs fired a shot from 20 yards out to find the back of the net.
Rose-Hulman, which entered the game at the ninth ranked team in the NCAA III Great Lakes Region, answered ten minutes later when freshman Austin Webb scored his second goal of the season off of a cross from junior Dieter Schultz.
Ebbs proved to be the difference in the game as he scored the game-winning goal two minutes into the first overtime.
The Fightin' Engineers enjoyed most of the possession, outshooting the Quakers 13-6 in the contest.
Senior Drew Miller tallied two saves in the game. The loss marks only the third time this season Miller and the Engineer defense have surrendered two goals. Offensively, Webb and freshman Turner Perkins each fired three shots.
The Engineers dip to 8-4-3 on the season with the loss and now stand at 4-1-1 in HCAC play. Rose-Hulman returns to action Saturday, Oct. 25, for a 3:30 p.m. game at Hanover.
