TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's soccer team looks to improve to 2-0 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) play Tuesday, Oct. 7, when the Fightin' Engineers travel to Mount St. Joseph for a game slated to begin at 7:30 p.m.
Rose-Hulman opened HCAC competition last Saturday, Oct. 4., with a 1-0 victory at Defiance. Freshman Madeline Romeo scored the game's only goal in the 33rd minute. The victory vaulted the Engineers to a 7-2 record on the season, the best start since 2007.
Rose-Hulman has also been ranked No. 8 in the Great Lakes Region in this week's National Soccer Coaches Association of America poll, the team's best ranking since 2007.
Junior goalkeeper Lucinda Combs has collected seven shutouts thus far on the season bringing her career shutout total to 26. Offensively junior Hayley Gilliam paces Rose-Hulman with nine points on the season. Fellow junior Kate DeMoss and freshman Eliska Saiz have each totaled six points.
"We had a good win over the weekend," head coach Amy Helliwell said. "Mount St. Joseph is an organized team that will look to capitalize on the counter attack. We have to prepare for that."
Mount St. Joseph comes into the game with a 3-7 mark including a 0-1 record in HCAC play. The Lions most recently fell to Franklin 3-2 in the HCAC opener for both teams.
The Lions leads the all-time series with Rose-Hulman 6-4-0. The Engineers, however, have won the last two meetings.
After the game with Mount St. Joseph, Rose-Hulman returns home to host Transylvania. The game is slated to begin at 1 p.m. on the Intramural Field.
