TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Rose Hulman Institute of Technology volleyball team came from two sets down to defeat Greenville College in five sets Monday, Oct. 6, by scores of 15-25, 16-25, 25-17, 25-22, 16-14. The victory snapped a six-game losing skid for the Fightin' Engineers. In addition, Rose-Hulman avenged a three-set loss to the Panthers on Sept. 2.
In the decisive fifth set, Rose-Hulman took an 8-2 lead when the teams changed sides. The Engineers extended their lead to 14-7 on a kill from senior Briana Harvey. Greenville proceeded to fight off seven match points and tie the set at 14. Rose-Hulman was not to be denied as the Engineers recorded kills on the next two points to clinch the match.
Junior Sarah Jensen and sophomore Morgan Dreyer led the way offensively for Rose-Hulman scoring 16 and 15 kills respectively. The two setters also notched triple-doubles with Jensen dishing out 26 assists and digging up 18 Greenville attack attempts while Dreyer added 21 assists and 15 digs. This marked the seventh time this season Jensen has recorded double digits in three categories along with the 19th time in her career.
Freshman libero Gabi Razma turned in her third consecutive 30-dig performance with 30 digs. Harvey and freshman Becca Poppel each added nine kills. Nicole Schaeffer led the way for Greenville with 18 kills.
As a team, Rose-Hulman tallied 59 kills and 21 errors on 213 attack attempts for a .178 attack percentage. Greenville hit a .200 clip for the match.
Rose-Hulman takes the court again on Wednesday, Oct. 8 when the Engineers host Anderson University. The matchup of HCAC foes is slated to begin at 7 p.m.
