TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology volleyball team played its most complete match of the season, Wednesday, Oct. 8 when the Fightin' Engineers swept Anderson University 25-16 25-16, 25-15. The victory was Rose-Hulman's first in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) play.
The Rose-Hulman block flexed its muscles in a big way as the front row tallied 11 team blocks. Along with the back row, the Engineer defense forced Anderson into 27 attack errors and just a .017 attack percentage. Both middle hitters, sophomore Emily McLendon and freshman Mackenzie Gossard tallied over five blocks individually.
Rose-Hulman hit .241 with 38 kills and 11 errors on 112 attack attempts. Freshman Becca Poppel led everyone offensively with 11 kills and a .391 attack percentage. Junior Sarah Jensen dished out 21 assists to go along with five kills, nine digs, and four blocks.
Rose-Hulman improves to 10-12 on the season including a 1-2 mark in HCAC play. The Engineers return to action Saturday, Oct. 11. The Engineers travel to Hanover and will play the Panthers at 1 p.m. and Ohio Wesleyan at 3 p.m.
