Women's Soccer Narrowly Falls at MSJ

CINCINNATI, Ohio -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology and Mount St. Joseph battled in a tightly contested Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference women's soccer matchup, but the host Lions relied on a late first half goal to earn a 1-0 victory.

The two teams each fired 10 shots in the contest, and Rose-Hulman held a narrow 3-2 edge on corner kicks.  Noel Boyd fired the lone goal of the match, unassisted, in the 37th minute to provide the offense Mount St. Joseph needed to earn the victory.

Junior Kate DeMoss and senior Haley O'Neil led the Rose-Hulman offense with two shots each, and junior Lucinda Combs recorded five saves.  The goalkeeper tandem of Lindsey Sturwold and Michelle Hessling combined for seven Mount St. Joseph saves in the shutout.

Rose-Hulman stands 7-3 overall and 1-1 in league play, while Mount St. Joseph improved to 4-7 and 1-1 in conference games.  The Fightin' Engineers host Transylvania University on Saturday at the Engineer Intramural Field.
