The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's basketball enters the game having posted a 1-1 mark at the 14th Annual McWilliams Classic held at Washington University in St. Louis. The Fightin' Engineers dropped a 59-35 decision to No. 10 Washington U. and rebounded to defeat Denison University 59-51.
In the game with Washington U., sophomore Josie Schmidt led the Engineers offensively scoring eight points and grabbing seven rebounds. Senior Gracie Gibbs also grabbed seven boards to go along with her six points.
In the victory over Denison, junior Carrie Morris coverted on 8-13 field goals coming off of the bench to lead Rose-Hulman with 23 points. Junior Cassidy Cain and sophomore Abbie Marshall added 10 points each. The Engineers led 21-16 at halftime and extended their lead to 31-18 using five straight points from Marshall and a 3-pointer from Morris. Denison would cut the lead to five points with under a minute to play, but four consecutive free throws from Cain sealed the Rose-Hulman victory.
The Scarlet Hawks come into the game with an 0-2 record. Illinois Institute of Technology fell to Olivet 84-56 to open the season and most recently lost to Eureka on Nov. 22.
After the game with Illinois Institute of Technology, the Engineers will travel to Colorado College over Thanksgiving and will play host Colorado College on Nov. 28 and Iowa Wesleyan on Nov. 29.
