COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's basketball team won its third consecutive game Friday, Nov. 28, defeating Colorado College 59-48. The victory marks the first time since the 2006-07 season the Fightin' Engineers started a season 3-1.
Junior guard Carrie Morris paced Rose-Hulman offensively with 17 points in 24 minutes. The Altadena, Calif., native also converted all six free throws. Sophomore forward Jamie Loving added nine rebounds off of the bench while senior guard Sheree Williams finished 4-6 from the field totaling eight points.
Rose-Hulman took a 15-8 lead midway through the first half on a layup from Loving. The Engineers would lead by as many as 11 in the first half, but the Tigers cut Rose-Hulman's advantage to 21-18 with 3:48 to play in the half. The Engineers ended the half on an 8-0 run, extending the lead back to 11 points at halftime.
After making the first two baskets of the second half, the Engineers led the lead throughout the entire half. Colorado College got as close as six points (49-43) with 3:14 to play, but six consecutive free throws from Morris sealed Rose-Hulman's victory.
Rose-Hulman has a quick turnaround as the Engineers will face Iowa Wesleyan tomorrow (Saturday) at 3 p.m(EST). The Tigers fell to Whitman College (Wash.) 64-46.
