TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's basketball team looks to notch its first Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) win Saturday, Dec. 13, when the Fightin' Engineers travel to North Manchester, Ind., for a 3 p.m. game with the Spartants of Manchester University.
Rose-Hulman enters the contest with a 3-2 record including an 0-1 mark in HCAC play. The Engineers narrowly dropped their conference opener 53-51 to nationally-ranked and defending league champions Transylvania. The Engineers were down by as many as 10 points early in the first half and cut the Pioneer lead to a single point with three minutes to play.
Sophomore Abbie Marshall led the Engineers a career-high 16 points in the contest. Sophomore Kristen Belyea and freshman Alyzia Dilworth each added 11 points while sophomore Josie Schmidt added six points and nine rebounds.
Manchester enters the game with a 3-2 record having defeated Earlham 67-66 most recently on Saturday, Dec. 3. The tandem of Alyssa Hammond and Katie Arterburn average 22.0 points per game for Manchester.
As a team, the Engineers ranked 15th nationally in field goal percentage defense as opponents average just 30.6 percent shooting from the field. Rose-Hulman also ranks 15th in scoring defense, allowing just 49.9 points per game.
Manchester leads the all-time series with Rose-Hulman 21-6. Rose-Hulman last won at Manchester 39-34 during the 2012-13 season.
