TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's basketball team looks to notch its second consecutive Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) road win Wednesday, Dec. 17, when the Fightin' Engineers travel to Anderson, Ind., for a 7:30 p.m. game with the Ravens of Anderson University.
Rose-Hulman left North Manchester with a 52-44 victory over Manchester University last Saturday. Trailing 25-21 early in the second half, the Engineers scored the game's next 17 points to burst open a 13-point lead they would not relinquish. Senior Gracie Gibbs led all scorers with 12 points while also grabbing seven rebounds. Sophomore Kristen Belyea added nine points and four assists while junior Cassidy Cain and sophomore Abbie Marshall each totaled eight points. As a team, Rose-Hulman shot 55.9 percent (19-34) from the field.
Gibbs leads the team in scoring averaging 8.6 points per contest while Marshall tallies 7.9 points per game. Junior Carrie Morris, who scored a season-high 23 points in Rose-Hulman's victory over Denison, averages 7.5 points per game.
Gibbs and Marshall also lead the squad in rebounds, averaging 7.4 and 6.5 per game respectively. Sophomore Josie Schmidt ranks third in the category, grabbing 5.1 boards per contest.
Cain and Belyea continue to bolster the Engineer backcourt. Both average over five points per contest while leading the team in assists as the two combine for 4.1 assists per contest.
As of Dec. 14, Rose-Hulman ranks 9th in scoring defense, allowing just 49.1 points per game.
The Engineers also rank 14th nationally in field goal percentage defense as opponents average just 30.7 percent shooting from the field.
The Ravens come into the game with a 1-5 record having lost their last four contests. Anderson most recently fell at Hanover 72-41 and at Bluffton 82-53. Cori Conner leads the Ravens offensively, averaging 13.2 points per game. As a team, Anderson averages 54.0 points per game and surrenders 71.3 points per game.
Anderson leads the all-time series 22-7. The two teams split last season with Rose-Hulman winning 74-67 at Hulbert Arena and the Ravens winning 58-54 at Anderson.
After the game at Anderson, Rose-Hulman plays its final game of 2014 at Illinois Wesleyan on Dec. 20. The Engineers open the new year at Bluffton on Jan. 3, 2015.
