ANDERSON, Ind. – The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's basketball team picked up its second consecutive Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) road win on Wednesday night, with a 45-37 victory at Anderson University.
Rose-Hulman began the game with its trademark, half-court defense. The Engineers held Anderson scoreless through the first 10 minutes of the game. During that time, Rose-Hulman built an 11-0 lead fueled by five points from junior Carrie Morris.
The Ravens stormed back, scored 16 points in the final nine minutes of the half to take a 16-14 lead. Two free throws from freshman Alyzia Dilworth with 37 seconds to play sent the two teams into halftime tied 16-16.
Leading 31-28 with 8:04 to play in regulation, Rose-Hulman went on a 13-2 run over the next 5:21, taking its biggest lead of the contest, 44-30. Anderson would get within seven points with a minute to play but could get no closer.
Dilworth led Rose-Hulman with eight points. Junior Cassidy Cain and sophomore Jamie Loving each added seven points. Cain added four steals while Loving pulled down a team-high eight rebounds.
Both squads connected on 14 field goals, committed 18 turnovers, and dished out eight assists. The Engineers held the advantage at the free throw line, converting 14-25 compared to 7-12 for Anderson.
The victory marked Rose-Hulman's first win at Anderson since the 2010-11 season. In addition, the Engineers won their eighth came over the Ravens in a series dating back to 1996.
Rose-Hulman now stands at 6-3 on the season, marking the first time since the 2005-06 season the Engineers have won six of their first nine games. The Engineers (2-1 HCAC) return to action Dec. 20 at Illinois Wesleyan at 3 p.m. Central Time. Rose-Hulman next plays at Hulbert Arena on Jan. 7.
